(512) 910-2000BURNET, TX – Five people lost their lives to a fiery crash that happened on U.S. 281 last Friday, July 25, Fox7Austin reports.
The events unraveled around 6 p.m., when the driver of a 2018 RAM 4500 truck, hauling a livestock trailer, drifted from the southbound lane into the northbound lane and crashed head-on into a Chevy Malibu. The pickup truck was propelled forward and crashed into a Mercedes SUV that was behind the Chevy Malibu.
The force of the collision caused the Mercedes to flip over and catch on fire. The five occupants inside died from their injuries at the scene. Officials have since identified them as Jacqueline Velazco, Desiree Cervantez, Brianna Valadez, Ruby Cruz, and Thalia Salinas.
The Chevy and pickup truck drivers, along with their passengers, were left with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Texas Department of Public Safety did not confirm who was behind the wheel of the Mercedes.
At this time, DPS is also working to determine why the pickup truck driver lost control of their vehicle.
No charges have been announced as of this writing.
