News: 5 hospitalized after sedan collision with extrication 

AUSTIN, TX – Five people were extricated from their sedan by Austin fire crews and then were taken to area hospitals following a crash northwest of St. Edward’s University Saturday. 

Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services and Austin Fire Rescue arrived at the scene, at the East Oltorf Street and South Congress Avenue intersection, before 9:30 p.m. Additional details from CBS Austin indicated that the impact of this collision led the sedan to get trapped underneath a transport truck.

Only one person was reported as pinned, while the others who needed to be extricated were trapped. 

Overall, one occupant, who was issued a trauma alert, was given CPR before being sent away to Dell Seton Medical Center for treatment of critical life-threatening wounds. First responders took two passengers to St. David’s South Medical Center for severe injuries and a child to Dell Seton Children’s for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds. 

At the time of reporting, emergency crews were set to take the fifth individual to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds. However, it is not immediately clear if they did actually go. 

No other information, including the exact cause of this collision, remains undisclosed.
