AUSTIN, TX – Austin police released the identity of the person who was killed in a deadly crash in Hyde Park on Wednesday.
This is an update in connection with our previous reporting. Police told KVUE that it was 32-year-old Lee Anthony Chavez-Avera who died.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. on the 4600th block of North MoPac Expressway.
Preliminary details show Chavez-Avera was operating a scooter and going against traffic. Another driver, traveling close to Chavez-Avera, merged into a different lane to try to avoid a crash. However, Chavez-Avera traveled in the same direction and was eventually hit by that vehicle and died from his injuries.
Police said the driver called 911 and stayed at the scene.
No citations have been reported at this time.
