SOUTH AUSTIN, TX – The Austin ISD police chief was injured in a motorcycle-vehicle crash that happened after a school-sanctioned graduation ceremony in South Austin on Wednesday.
The incident occurred before 8:30 p.m. near West U.S. 290 and the MoPac Service ramp after a graduation ceremony at the Burger Center in South Austin, KVUE reports. The police chief, identified as Wayne Sneed, who was riding a motorcycle, was escorting Superintendent Matias Segura from that event, who was inside a vehicle. As they continued on the road, another AISD police officer, also on a motorcycle, struck Sneed.
Sneed sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Austin Police did not say if they cited the other officer who struck Sneed. And Segura or school district personnel have not released a public statement regarding this specific collision.
