SOUTH AUSTIN, TX – Black ice was to blame for a semi-truck crash that occurred in South Austin on Sunday night during a winter storm that affected more than 35 states over the weekend.
The semi-truck crash occurred on the 8900th block of South Interstate 35 North, according to KXAN. Austin police arrived at the scene around 5:30 p.m. and determined that the semi-truck also may have collided with another vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
Officials shut down the majority of the interstate and cleared the area by 9 p.m.
The City of Austin indicated that police responded to a total of 185 traffic collisions on Sunday, which was much lower than what police say during winter storms. On Feb. 1, 2023, Austin police reportedly responded to nearly 445 traffic crashes.
