News: Crash involving Bastrop ISD bus sends 11 students, 1 adult to hospital

BASTROP COUNTY, TX – As many as 11 students were rushed to a hospital Friday morning after a Bastrop ISD school bus was struck by a pickup truck in Cedar Creek, reports CBS Austin.

The accident took place at the corner of Highway 71 and Blue Flame Road, prompting an emergency response shortly after 7:00 a.m.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said the school bus was crossing the highway toward Blue Flame Road when its back-right side was struck by a westbound pickup truck.

Following the impact, the school bus collided with an electrical pole along Blue Flame.

DPS confirmed that 11 students and one adult were transported to an area hospital. Other students were evaluated at the scene and then taken back to campus. Bastrop ISD officials said the injuries sustained were not considered serious.

Crews with Bluebonnet Electrical Cooperative responded to the scene to cut the power from the impacted pole.
