CEDAR PARK, TX – A cyclist sustained minor hand injuries and a broken arm, and a 51-year-old woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after a crash on Monday.
Cedar Park police told the Austin American-Statesman that the collision occurred before 7:30 a.m. outside of Reed Elementary School. The female driver was identified as Marta Alicia Johnson, Assistant Principal of Reed Elementary School.
After arriving, officers discovered that Johnson had struck the cyclist with her car. Officers said she exhibited signs of intoxication, i.e.., bloodshot eyes, and smelled alcohol on her breath. According to a Williamson County affidavit obtained by the source, Johnson also admitted to drinking two White Claw hard seltzers and had not gone to sleep until 3 a.m.
Police conducted a field sobriety test on Johnson, and she failed, receiving a 0.282 blood alcohol content, which is three times higher than the legal limit. Police charged her with “one count of driving while intoxicated.” That is a “class-A misdemeanor that is punishable by a fine of up to $4,000 and a jail sentence of up to one year.”
Leander Independent School District personnel put Johnson on administrative leave.
