AUSTIN, TX – A suspected drunk driving incident in Central Austin resulted in the deaths of two pedestrians early Thursday morning, marking the city’s 57th fatal crash of the year, KVUE reports.
The Austin Police Department (APD) responded to the 6500 block of North Lamar Boulevard at approximately 2:26 a.m. on Aug. 24. The crash involved a 22-year-old driver, Edward Rodriguez, and two pedestrians.
Authorities identified the victims as Johnny Joe Reyes, 50, and Antonio Luis Trevino Maldonado, 22. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Rodriguez was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, according to APD.
