AUSTIN, TX – Austin fire crews were dispatched to a fire at the Mueller Flats Apartments before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The incident happened on the 1070 block of Clayton Lane, CBS Austin reported. Officials said a third-floor balcony caught fire due to smoking material that was not correctly disposed of.
The flames spread to an attic and down the floor below, as well as “10 to 15 feet above a roofline.” Residents were trapped on the third floor and able to escape thanks to aid from firefighters.
No one, including firefighters and pets, was harmed in the fire, but the fire destroyed 12 apartments, displacing those residents.
