News: Man, 23, critically injured in hit-and-run crash in South Austin 

SOUTH AUSTIN, TX – A 23-year-old man was left in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash that took place in South Austin last Saturday, May 30.

Police told KVUE they believe the 23-year-old man was crossing South Congress Avenue near William Cannon Drive when he was struck by a vehicle.

The driver fled the scene, and first responders arrived to find the 23-year-old man, identified as Dominic Dubas, on the ground. Officials rushed Dominic to the emergency room, where he remains in critical condition.

Melissa Dubas, Dominic’s mom, said Dubas is an active-duty U.S. Air Force service member. He is based in Alaska and was visiting Austin with friends.

Melissa said the last time she communicated with Dominic was via text around 10 p.m. on that Saturday. Dominic told his mother he was going to leave his Airbnb to go to Popeyes to get a late dinner with friends.

Dominic was left with a severe traumatic brain injury and spinal cord damage and is currently on life support.
