SOUTHEAST AUSTIN, TX – A 34-year-old male driver was charged with DWI after causing a fatal pedestrian crash in the McKinney area Saturday.
According to the Austin Police Department, the driver had struck the pedestrian in the 4900th block of Burleson Road before fleeing the scene. Officers arrived at the scene before 1 a.m. and declared the pedestrian dead at the scene. The male pedestrian has since been identified as 36-year-old Juan Mario Martinez-Hernandez.
The police department’s traffic unit team is investigating the details behind the deadly collision. More information, including new or dropped charges, will be added to an updated news blog post after it becomes available.
