AUSTIN, TX – A pin-in crash was followed by a police chase in the area of East 7th Street Friday.
Austin Police responded to the incident after 2:30 a.m., according to CBS Austin. They saw that a person was trying to get inside other vehicles. Police approached the person, and the individual got inside the car.
Police commanded they get out of the car, but the person fled, causing police to pursue a chase. The driver then crashed into a moving freight train.
The driver, whom police suspected was impaired, was trapped in the vehicle. First responders extricated the driver, and then transported the person to Dell Seton Medical Center for critical-life-threatening injuries.
The individual later succumbed to fatal injuries, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The area shut down, and police advised drivers to seek alternative routes.
