AUSTIN, TX – Austin Police confirmed the identity of a man who was killed in a pin-in crash on FM 973 outside the AUS Airport on Monday.
This is an update in connection with the story we posted on Monday, May 11. Police told KXAN that it was 46-year-old Humberto Espino Vasquez, who lost his life.
Police determined that Vasquez was driving when his vehicle collided with another, pinning him inside.
Austin Police and Austin Travis County Emergency Medical Services and fire crews were dispatched to the scene at 1:54 a.m. and arrived a short time later. Firefighters were able to free Vasquez from his vehicle, but he unfortunately died from his injuries at the scene.
ATCEMS rushed the surviving driver to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Anyone with more information about this particular incident is urged to contact APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at the phone number listed in the initial source or by submitting an anonymous tip through Capital Area Crime Stoppers.
