AUSTIN, TX – Austin Police confirmed that a fiery collision involving pedestrians and a food truck in the Riverside district on Tuesday was caused by a driver who fled the scene.
New details from FOX 7 Austin indicate this collision unfolded after 4:30 p.m. at Elmont Drive and South Pleasant Valley Road. Officers arrived at the scene, where a woman, the hit-and-run suspect, alleged that a person stole her phone. Police did what they could to try and find the phone but had no luck, so they left. Immediately after they left, the woman struck four pedestrians and then a food truck serving Hondruan food, which led the trailer to catch on fire, and then continued driving away.
To recap, two of the struck victims were hospitalized for wounds deemed serious, non-life-threatening, and minor wounds, while the two others did not require a trip to the hospital.
The Austin Fire Department, who were among the first responders summoned to the hit-and-run collision site, said the food truck had a fryer actively running. However, they have not been able to confirm the exact cause of the fire.
The suspect’s name has not been publicly announced. Although, her description was revealed. Police said she is a Hispanic woman, measuring at 5 foot 5 and weighing around 180 pounds and was operating a gray or tan Toyota SUV.
The public is advised to contact the police department if they have any information on the suspect’s whereabouts or can provide additional details regarding Tuesday’s wreck.
