LEANDER, TX – Leander Police Department officials said a driver of a Chevrolet van failed to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn, causing a collision that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
The crash happened before 6:15 p.m. Monday at the intersection of North US Highway 183 and Sheila Drive.
Moments after the Chevrolet emerged from Sheila Drive to turn northbound onto US-183, the motorcyclist struck the vehicle’s left rear side.
Upon arrival, paramedics conducted CPR on the motorcyclist, but the victim, identified as 29-year-old Brendan Kyle Johnson, was ultimately pronounced deceased at the scene.
It was unclear whether the van driver was injured, but they received a citation for “failure to yield right of way turning left.”
An investigation by the Leander Police Collision Reconstruction Team remains underway. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact the Leander Police Department at the phone number listed in the source.
