SOUTH AUSTIN, TX – Austin police confirmed they arrested and booked a 37-year-old man into the Travis County jail following a deadly crash that happened last Monday, August 11.
According to an update from KVUE, police identified the man as James Preston Durbin.
The two-vehicle crash took place after 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of South 1st Street and West William Cannon Drive. One of the drivers, later identified as 47-year-old Samson Seablom, died from his injuries. The collision also involved a pedestrian who was hit with debris from the crash and was hospitalized for serious injuries.
Durbin faces aggravated assault charges in connection with the pedestrian. As it stands, he was “charged with manslaughter and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon”, according to authorities.
The other driver, who was not identified, was hospitalized for treatment of unspecified injuries.
